Malware is a shorthand term for malicious software, referring to any invasive software crafted by cybercriminals that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or illicitly access a computer system. Common examples of malware encompass viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, adware, and ransomware.
We conducted extensive research, delving into numerous articles and videos from various sources about malware. Seeking insights from experts, we discovered that cybercriminals are closer to us than we might think, with programming knowledge readily accessible to many. Our research revealed the substantial losses caused by cyberattacks. In an effort to prevent and protect against malware attacks, we chose to focus on malware as the subject of our case study. Our hope is that our study can help mitigate losses for many.
We conducted interviews with cybersecurity companies to gain a deeper understanding of malware. After extensive research and reaching out to several companies, Tech Titan agreed to the interview. During our visit, we had lunch with key employees, including the business director and security consultant, followed by an in-depth interview in their meeting room. This experience provided valuable insights into malware and real-world cases of malware attacks.
After conducting research and interviews, our group members, despite being new to computing, decided to create our own malware. We started by learning the basics of Python through online resources such as YouTube, GitHub, and insights from the cybersecurity company we interviewed. It took us 2-3 weeks to grasp the fundamentals and successfully create a Ransomware. This experience was both exciting and unsettling, as it highlighted how easily a newcomer can create malware. It underscored the importance of having antivirus software to prevent malware attacks.
